Who Am I?

I am…

A person currently stuck in Riyadh traffic (which likely many of you are as you are reading this)

A mother of 5

A coach of sorts

A daughter, a sister, a wife

A writer

A bit of a mess…

Long list, I know. But I sometimes feel like a long list.

I had my first child at 23, just before my first anniversary, and my youngest at 37. I’ve breastfed while helping my eldest fill out college applications. There is a gulf between how I parented the two eldest and the 2 youngest. The middle child I am hoping is not to too confused. He probably feels how I feel growing up in the 80’s and 90’s with land lines and only 2 tv channels and ending up here, walking around with a computer in my hand and a bazillions channels to choose from.

A while ago when 1 and 2 were growing and 3 and 4 were toddlers I lost the plot. I was not the nicest parent and my best friend told me to figure myself out, which I am eternally grateful for. I got coaching, loved it and became a coach.

I have the honor of serving on two non profit boards. And I only hope I’ve given them half as much as I’ve gained during my time with them in knowledge and experience.

I am a writer despite not writing. it’s like an addiction I am abstaining from. A positive one.

A bit of a mess:

Yes, well… life is messy.

And yes, I’m still stuck in traffic if you were wondering.

I’m Bessma

Welcome! This is where I try to make sense of the confusion of being a human being. You might find something helpful here — and you’re guaranteed to find something entertaining. I’m a mother of five from Saudi Arabia, with a lot of experience under my belt and, God willing, a lot left to learn. Make yourself comfortable and stay a while. (Sketch by Brandie Janow).
